Super Senior Sister smashing six half marathons At work, Liz Solaru can be found supporting patients in the Outpatients department as a Senior Sister at Maidstone Hospital. But outside work, she's taking on an exciting challenge for MTW Hospitals Charity. Liz has always had an interest in running, and decided while participating in a Parkrun that she was finally going to take on the challenge of a half marathon; something she’d always aspired to achieve but lacked confidence to do. With a birthday coming up, she added together the digits of her new age and decided that six was the magic number…she is now taking on a total of six half marathons this year, and donating all sponsorship funds to our charity! Following eight weeks of intense training with her husband in cold, dark winter months, Liz recently completed her first race in Deal, managing a brilliant time of 2 hours and 21 minutes without any breaks. She is also planning to take part in half marathons in Maidstone, Ireland, Alicante, and the Bacchus Wine race in Dorking, and still needs to decide on one final race. “I chose MTW Hospitals Charity as I was inspired by the charity sign that I see every morning as I come into work, and I knew they would do a lot of good with the money raised. I would love my contribution to be used towards a Changing Places toilet in the Outpatients department, as it would really improve the experience of our patients and their families,” said Liz. “I would advise anyone looking to start their own fundraising journey to pick something they enjoy and choose a charity they’re passionate about.
